Nets acquire Tim Bassett, Kim Hughes, Rich Jones, and Jim Eakins.Dr. J again dominates, averaging 29.3 ppg, recapturing the league's scoring crown.He averages 34.6 ppg in the playoffs and is named regular season and playoff MVP, Sporting News Player of the Year, and Basketball Weekly's MVP of all pro ranks. The Nets defeat the San Antonio Spurs in seven games in the first round and then the heavily favored Denver Nuggets in six games in the Championship Series.
