    PERSONAL: Full name is Demetrius Antonio Battie. Brother, Derrick, played basketball at Temple University. Also has one sister. Majored in communications while at Texas Tech. Served as a school crossing guard in the Central Florida community in 2005. Participated in the "Dunks for Donations" program, presented by Taco Bell, where Battie and Taco Bell each donate $25 per dunk to the Boys and Girls Club. Spoke to a YMCA youth group about sportsmanship. Assisted with building a KaBoom! playground for the Sanford Boys and Girls Club.Bought and distributed toys to underprivileged children and families over the holidays. Met with military personnel after a game as part of the Magic's 'Seats for Soldiers' night. Donated tickets to community organizations and met with the groups pre-game. Was a member of PALS (Peer Assistance Leadership Program) in high school, which was a support group for grade school students. Fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Favorite TV show is 'The Sopranos', while favorite movies are 'The Green Mile' and 'Batman'. Enjoys eating at any steakhouse or seafood place. In his spare time, likes to shoot pool or read. Lists Magic Johnson as his favorite athlete and his grandfather as the most influential person in his life, who taught him about the meaning of hard work. In the summer of 2009, participated in the Sportscaster U program at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Communications along with several other NBA veterans.
